MDS Editorial Guidelines
MedicalDeviceSummit.com is an information resource and online meeting place for the global medical device industry. The content will be a mix of journalistic styled articles, peer-reviewed papers, white papers, press releases and news, and will comprise of ePublishing products including eNewsletters, blogs, discussion boards, key word sponsorships, buyers guide, online accredited training, sponsored eBooks, and webinars that provide a two-way street of digital communication to the global medical device industry.
Features will be presented in an easy-to-read journalistic style covering business trends and developments.
Our Microsites will focus on areas of Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality Systems, Regulatory Compliance and Combination Products. See the MDS Editorial Calendar for more details on topics and deadlines.
The site will be updated frequently with features changes every month, news articles uploaded weekly and e-newsletters distributed every week.
TYPES OF SUBMISSIONS
We welcome the following types of submissions:
- Articles: MedicalDeviceSummit.com welcomes articles for review and publishing. Manuscripts must be clearly directed to our target readership, must not repeat recent coverage of the same topic, must be sharply focused on a well-defined topic, and must meet the standards of peer reviewers. Please consult with the Editor before working on articles (also see “Guidelines for Authors” below).
- New Products and Services: New products and services are featured every week. We invite releases that clearly state the application of this product/ service within the medical device industry and describe new materials, components, equipment, and services available to medical device manufacturers. If possible, include a high-quality photograph. Each month, the editor selects one product as the Featured Product for highlighting on the Home Page of the site.
- Industry Events: Our Events calendar features upcoming events for the medical device industry.
REVIEW AND EDITING PROCESS
All manuscripts are subjected to peer review to ensure the quality and relevance of the materials. Manuscripts are also subject to copyediting.
Authors are given the opportunity to review and approve or alter the edited draft before publication.
On average, submissions require two to three weeks for review and up to a month for publication.
HOW TO SUBMIT MANUSCRIPTS:
Articles should be submitted in MS-Word or PDF formats.

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS:
These editorial guidelines are designed to help the author understand what type of articles we accept and don't accept for inclusion on MedicalDeviceSummit.com. Please read these guidelines before you make any submissions to our site.
a. Articles must be an original piece written by you, or adapted from an article/ column that you had published earlier (with the relevant source/ permission mentioned)
b. Following types of articles will be accepted:
- Features focusing on analysis and trends, ‘newsy’ developments etc; can include comments and quotes from industry
- Technical articles focusing on new technologies, scientific processes (e.g. new techniques of environmental monitoring, rapid micro testing, a newly engineered medical device etc)
- Press releases, sponsored features, white papers will be suitably adapted and positioned in the relevant sections of the site
c. Articles must be written in proper American English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization and sentence structure.
d. Please include author name in “first name last name” or “first initial, last name.” Please also include job title, company name, and contact information (email address). Company names, email or website addresses cannot suffice as author names.
e. Articles must be:
- 1000-1200 words for features
- 800-1000 words for columns/ blogs
- 800-1000 words for section articles (e.g. articles under Quality or Regulatory Compliance microsites)
- 250-400 words for news articles
f. Include as part of your article:
- Suitable title
- 2-3 sentence intro/ executive summary of the article
- Author’s information
- Appropriate images/ illustrations and captions for these images
- Keywords (list min of 5 and max of 20 key words that are most pertinent to your article)
g. Tables, if any, should be included at the bottom of the article. These should contain only words and common mathematical and technical symbols (sans any art). Number these tables in order of reference to these within the article to enable easy identification.
h. Figures and illustrations must be provided as separate files, and not included as part of the article copy. Preferred formats to send images are JPEG, TIFF and EPS. Number these figures in order of reference to these within the article. Hardcopy of artwork will NOT be accepted.
i. References should be typed double-spaced on a separate page. Number these in order of reference to within the article. These should be indicated within the article text by superscript numerals.
j. Bibliographies or suggested readings should be organized alphabetically and not numbered.
